That Gets My Goat 64: Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better

Inevitably, a conversation about how sexist comic book movies are is going to address the point that some movies are made for men and some are made for women. Apparently, the studios think that certain words are alienating to one gender or the other. If you're lucky, the conversation doesn't devolve into Boys Versus Girls.

Big and Rish are not lucky.

  1. Good discussion guys. Sometimes your discussions devolve into arguments of twelve year old boys and I have to turn them off but today was ok. I write from the perspective of a 64 year old female who has been reading comics and sf and fantasy since I was nine. As a child I never really noticed the lack of females and, if I imagined myself in the adventure, I never really considered my gender. It is difficult when discussing movies because their bottom line is profit. It is amazing to me that any good movies get made. I would certainly go see a superhero movie without a romantic angle. If females can't be the protaganists then I would like to see them as scientists or something else intelligent and interesting. But I have come to the realization over the years that I don't have normal female sensibilities. When I first heard John Carter bandied about I was excited because I knew what is was refering to but I suppose, for those people unfamilier with the books, a "catchier" title would have served them better. We'll see I guess.
