The last "Delusions of Grandeur" episode we did was inspired by watching Alfred Hitchcock's movie NOTORIOUS, starring Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman, and in reading about that, it said that an episode of "The Clone Wars" was a total homage to it, the one called "Senate Spy" from 2009. And yes, there are definite parallels there.
Just as we were going to record, however, the great James Earl Jones died, and we spend a few minutes talking about his masterful addition to the Star Wars experience. Check it out HERE.
Over on the Journey Into... podcast, Marshal and I have reviewed INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, the 1978 remake, and one of my favorite horror films.
It's a familiar story: people are acting strangely, seemingly changed from their usual personalities, and two coworkers at the Health Department, Matthew Bennell and Elisabeth Driscoll, try to get to the bottom of it. Is it paranoia, mass hysteria, a vast conspiracy, or just the fraying of our increasingly-insular modern society?
This is the version set in San Francisco, and it's probably the best movie we've reviewed on this show--almost nothing in it doesn't work, and it's filled with familiar faces, such as Leonard Nimoy, Veronica Cartwright, Robert Duvall, and Jeff Goldblum.

Rish here. Not too long ago, Marshal and I got together (literally) to watch 1942's CAT PEOPLE.
It's a movie I had seen several years back, but was reminded of when I picked up a story by Val Lewton (who produced CAT PEOPLE) called "The Bagheeta," to record for my podcast. Marshal was game to review the movie, and here it is.
Basically, a man meets and marries a mysterious foreign woman who is convinced that she is under a curse to turn into a deadly were-cat when she becomes emotional. But it's all in her head, right?
Talking about this moving made me want to watch the other flicks Lewton made for RKO (such as 1943's THE LEOPARD MAN). Check out our discussion HERE!
Has Big Anklevich gone too far? Well, that's up to you, but the most recent episode of the Anklecast is the first one I can remember with a content warning.
Misguided Trent and brilliant Brent are two childhood friends whose lives go in very different directions as they grow up. While Trent seems to make all the wrong decisions, Brent uses his genius to create a way for his friend to go back, all those years ago, and maybe do something about it. Maybe.
It's a rough story, but it was apparently meant to (I can't remember what the exact prompt was both of us were writing to), and we talk about that afterward. Check it out HERE.

Over at the Outfield Excursions podcast, Marshal Latham and I talk about Roger Corman's THE PREMATURE BURIAL, a movie he tried to do on his own, without American International Pictures (and hence, he couldn't afford Vincent Price in the lead).* Of course, when he shopped it around, the studio that bought distribution rights was, you guessed it, AIP.
Anyway, based(ish) on Edgar Allan Poe's story of the same name, this 1962 flick tells of Guy (Ray Milland), who is terrified of being buried alive, and the woman who tries to reason with him. There's nothing to fear in that, right? Check out our review HERE.
*There were seven films in the Poe cycle, and Price starred in six of them.
The suspense was killing you, but Big has finally published the second half of his story "Karma Is My Boyfriend" over on the Anklecast podcast. Rish voices Thor again, as well as two other characters, then hangs out to talk about Big's story in the rest of the episode (and Big's reputation as a cruel and heartless bastage).

Marshal "The Acupuncturist" Latham has finally put out the second-place winner in his (cursed) Quardle Quell story contest. It's by R.C. Anderson, called "The Decline of the West (And Other Terrorist Photo Galleries)," about a computer programmer who stumbles upon a pattern that might be a far-reaching conspiracy.
Rish voices Zoltan, an Eastern European computer hacker, which, yeah, is typecasting. Also featured are Bria Burton, Josh Roseman* and Marshal himself.

Over at the Anklecast, Big is presenting a novella he just wrote, called "Karma Is My Boyfriend," about a dude who discovers his crazy ex is dating . . . well, let's just say it's the physical embodiment of the Buddhist concept of deserved consequences. Rish voices a character named Thor, and Big voices all the rest. Afterward, we talk about the story's origin, and bad-mouth Marshal Latham.

It was a PG-13 horror flick about a gateway to the underworld in a suburban kid's yard from '87. Somehow, I never saw it. Till now. Check out the fun HERE, if you dare.
