Big n' Rish's Voices on Journey Into...'s "With A Banjo On My Knee"

Recently, Marshal Latham had a rather diabolical writing contest over at the Journey Into... podcast, call the Quordel Quell.  Each entrant was given four words, generated by a game of Quordel, that we were supposed to craft a story around.  After a lot of struggle, Rish submitted a story called "With A Banjo On My Knee," which tells of Garrett McClaren's discovery of a banjo that seems to have an unusual, maybe even magical effect on people.

Well, Marshal has created a production of that story over on the Journey Into... podcast, and it's available now, if you'd like to listen to it.  He went nuts with full-cast (again), and there are a bunch of familiar faceless voices in this one, like Dave Thompson, Rene Chambliss, Gino Moretto, Bria Burton, and both Big and Rish.

Feel free to check it out HERE.

Rish, Marshal, and Allan Quatermain Visit the "Lost City of Gold"

Rish here.  Last year, I forced Marshal to watch KING SOLOMON'S MINES, a light-hearted RAIDERS rip-off starring Richard Chamberlain, Sharon Stone, and John-Rhys Davies.  I liked it a lot more than he did, so we waited a year to watch the sequel, ALLAN QUATERMAIN & THE LOST CITY OF GOLD.

Was it as good as the first one?  Was it more or less of an Indiana Jones rip-off?  Did it co-star any Dark Lords of the Sith or Mistresses of the Dark?  Find out HERE.

Rish's Voice on "Rusty Sue" on The Drabblecast

Rish here.  The great Norm Sherman over at the Drabblecast asked me to voice a character in "Rusty Sue" by Arthur Manners.  It's a a post-apocalyptic Western, with a world of mostly robots, and I voice . . . Slim, a twelve foot tall android sheriff.  I get to say "pterodactyl-looking muther-fu**ers," so that's nice.

Norm continues to do fine work, which you can check out at THIS LINK.

Big and Rish Finish Up "Do-Over" on the Anklecast

At last, the final chapter is available of Big Anklevich's story "Do-Over" is available on Big's podcast, Ye Olde Anklecast.  Rish lends his presence to comment on the story and/or make annoying observations.

Find out if Big bucks the trend, and lets his unfortunate main character live happily ever after HERE.

Note: Apparently, the story is called "Do Over," not "Do-Over."  Can I get a re-do?

Rish's Voice on Campfire Radio Theater's "Desecrate"

As you know (Robert), Campfire Radio Theater continually presents the highest-quality audio dramas in podcast form, usually in disturbing and/or totally effed-up ways.  This month's story is called "Desecrate," and I know nothing about the plot, because I'm too scared to listen to it.  But if you're braver than me, and want to hear Rish voice the sheriff, check it out HERE.

Writer/director John Ballentine proves that anyone can be prodigious, as long as they're 40% talented, 50% hard-working, and 10% stark, raving mad.  These guys always do, hands-down, the highest-quality audio drama, and show no signs of stopping.

Rish Performs "The Raucous Depths Abide" on Kaleidocast

Rish here.  I've got another reading up at New York's Kaleidocast.  Sam Schreiber sent us a couple of stories back in the Dunesteef days, so it was a pleasure to get to record his story "And the Raucous Depths Abide" for Kaleidocast.  Of course, they commission their episodes so far in advance (I believe this one came to me in September or October of 2022) that I could barely remember the plot--something about two alien machines that come to earth to observe our evolution, only to have one lose its mind and become a threat.

It's packaged as a double-feature with a story called The Tallest Doll in New York City, so that sounds like a win-win to me.  You can check it out HERE.

Big and Rish Talk About "Do-Over"

On the Anklecast, Big is running his short novel (novelona, according to him) "Do-Over," about a man who gets the chance to live his twenties over again, and he's been kind and/or cruel enough to have Rish on his podcast.

Anyhow, he's broken the piece into five parts, and Part Four is now available on his website (or on his Patreon, if you want it early).  We talk about the story, as well as regrets in our past, and speculate about what we'd go back and do over again.  Check it out HERE.

Rish and Marshal (and Valerian) Visit A Thousand Planets

Rish here.  Hey, do you remember that Luc Besson movie, VALERIAN & THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS (the first installment in the vaunted Valerian and Lorelei series)?  Well, once upon a time, Marshal Latham and I watched it, then talked about it on the Outfield Excursions podcast.

Is it as awful as we'd been lead to believe?  Come along with us, to at least fifty or sixty planets, won't you?  Check it out HERE.

Big and Rish Speculate About What They'd "Do-Over"

Over at Big's Anklecast podcast, he's running his novella "Do-Over," where a middle-aged man gets a chance to re-live back when he was young, and we share what a couple of listeners say they would do over, if they had the chance.  Check out the episode(s) HERE.

Oh, and since I didn't post about them, here's a link to PART I and PART II.

Big n' Rish Back Together in Anklecast's "Ghost in the Monitor"

If you miss what we used to do on the 'steef, Big and Rish are back together on the Anklecast, presenting Big's long, scary tale "Ghost in the Monitor," written many, many moons ago.  Basically, Joe, father of a newborn, hears a creepy voice from the baby monitor, threatening the child, but finds no one on the other end of it.  Afterward, as usual, they discuss.

Check out Part One HERE.

And finish 'er up with Part Two HERE.

Rish's Voice in "Beyond the Ensuite" on HorrorAddicts

Rish here.  Yet another HorrorAddicts episode has dropped (how do they do it?).  I got to play the lead in "Beyond the Ensuite," but it's not like a movie or TV show, where I'm onscreen the whole time.  In a production like this, I'm only described until I speak, halfway through.

I get to play ("play?") a backward, stammering single man, nervously uncomfortable with the discovery of a naked woman in a secret indoor bathhouse.  Hijinks ensue.  Check it out HERE.

Rish Performs "Nymph of Darkness" on Pseudopod

Rish here.  For some reason, Shawn over at Pseudopod asked me to perform "Nymph of Darkness" by C.L. Moore and Forrest J. Ackerman, a pulpy story from the Golden Age of Science Fiction, about Northwest Smith and his encounter with a fugitive girl who happens to be invisible.

Forry Ackerman was the godfather of fandom, and I regret that I didn't get to meet him (or go on his famous house tour) before he died in 2008.  But I didn't know he was an oft-published writer (I did know he was the literary agent for a bunch of famous writers, and I guess that makes a bit of sense), and the co-author of this story from 1935.

I decided to give the Venusians a different accent than the humans, and being a lazy--if brilliant--audiobook narrator, I just gave them a different Earth accent.  I imagine there are narrators out there that would've developed an entirely original accent for their alien characters . . . but sadly, those narrators are now dead.

This was just one story in the Northwest Smith series, and it would be good work to do all the stories (kind of like we had permission to do all the Catastrophe Baker stories on the Dunesteef*), though there's a stark difference between Mike Reznick's stories and this.  Check it out HERE.

*Do we still?

Rish and Marshal Discuss the End of The Mandalorian

Or is it just the end of the season?  Listen to one of us rant on the "Star Wars: Delusions of Grandeur" podcast.

Rish here.  Here's THE LINK to the latest episode, where Marshal and I do what we do, when we do what we're doin to you.

Note: I feel like this episode is about a month late, but I just kept finding priorities to put ahead of it.  In fact, I still had two priorities I should have finished before it, but I felt too guilty.  But now I feel guilty for missing another deadline.

It's Coming...

The very FIRST Broken Mirror Story Event between Rish Outfield and Big Anklevich is on its way.

For better or worse.

Rish's Voice on HorrorAddicts' "The Living Room"

Rish here.  This HorrorAddicts dialogue job was a fun assignment.  My voice can be heard in "The Living Room" by Amanda Leslie.  In it, I voice a paranormal investigator, one with a reality show ("Ghosts: Believe It"), and a Catholic priest, performing some kind of cleansing.*  But . . . Emerian Rich only sent me the bit of the story with my lines in it (so if you want to go to THIS LINK, we can find out what the story's about together).

*Both this and the next episode have Latin in them, and I never know how to pronounce Latin.  But whenever I hear it in movies, it sounds so much like Italian, that I tend to deliver it the exact same way (except, since it's a dead language, there are fewer people noticing when I mispronounce something than if I did it in Spanish or Italian . . . or French, where I mispronounce everything).

Big and Rish Do Double-time In A "Sepia Tone Prison"

Over on Big's Anklecast, he's presenting Part Too of his story "Sepia Tone Prison," followed by discussion with Rish.  It features voices by Bria Burton, Marshal Latham, and Rish.  Check it out HERE.

Rish Performs "Who Built The Moon?" On Tales To Terrify

Rish here.  Every once in a while, other podcasts will still ask me to do a story for them.  And I'm usually pretty happy to do it, since I like to narrate stories, and they're usually pretty good ones.  Recently, "Tales To Terrify" asked me to perform "Who Built The Moon?" by Tyler Jones.

Four buddies are on a hunting trip to Canada when something mysterious and/or terrible happens.  What happened to John and his girlfriend out in the woods?  And what is out there now?

Every story or character or audiobook presents its own challenges.  This one was quite long, with lots of shouting.  Check it out HERE . . . if you dare.

Rish's Voice in "Cacophony" on HorrorAddicts

So, last year, Emerian over at the HorrorAddicts podcast had Rish voice a bunch of male characters on various audio dramas on her show, and it looks like this year will be no different.

This time it's for Judith Pancoast's story "Cacophony," in which he voices Bob, the douchey husband.  As you do.  Check it out HERE.

Big and Rish Do Time In A "Sepia Tone Prison"

Over on Big Anklevich's Anklecast, he's presenting a ghost story he wrote called "Sepia Tone Prison," about an old man who is unable to move to the next plain of existence, but isn't sure why.  Rish lends his voice Chingaso Boludo, and both discuss the story afterward.

So, the story was long enough he split it in two, so you'll get two episodes out of it instead of just one.  Check out Part One HERE.

And is it "see-pia" or "seh-pia?"  Listen in to never find out!

Rish Talks Big's "Prime Shipping" on the Anklecast

Big continues his streak of getting out a new Anklecast show every month, and this story is called "Prime Shipping."  It deals with a man who gets a mysterious package from Amazon right when he needs it, and the sender turned out to be . . . himself?  Big narrates and Rish voices the buddy character, then both discuss it afterward.

Check it out HERE.

Big & Marshal Join The Rish Outcast (Be Careful What You Wish For)

It was only fair--Big Anklevich and Marshal "The Mauler" Latham have appeared on Rish's Outcast, presenting the third (and final) installment of the "Be Careful What You Wish For" crossover.

This one is called "Fountain of Knowledge," and even though Rish does whatever he can not to talk about the story, it's based on an experience he had in junior high Algebra class.  Check it out HERE.

Big & Rish Join The Journey Into... Podcast (Be Careful What You Wish For)

And for your second wish?

Big Anklevich and Rish Outfield join Marshal Latham on his Journey Into... podcast to lend their voices and discuss "At What Price Peace?" in our three episode crossover event following the theme of "Be Careful What You Wish For."*

Check it out HERE.

*Maybe we should make this a yearly/bi-annual event.

Rish & Marshal Join The Anklecast (Be Careful What You Wish For)

In the first of a three-part crossover, Rish Outfield and Marshal Latham are appearing in the newest episode of the Anklecast, presenting the first "Be Careful What You Wish For" story (all three wrote one for a contest last year*).  This one is Big's story, "Long Term Memory," about an old man able to time travel back to when he was young (for love, of course).

Check it out HERE.

*May the best man win.

Rish Performs "Ye Goode Olde Ghoste Storie" on Pseudopod

Wow, that was quick.

"Ye Goode Olde Ghoste Storie" is a super short tale, written by Anthony Boucher (aka William A.P. White), apparently when he was fifteen years old (in 1927).  I was asked to narrate it for Pseudopod, and it's available now, as part of their Public Domain Showcase.

Check it out HERE!
