So, Rish was fascinated by the recent "Veronica Mars" Kickstarter project and some speculation that it's either the best thing to happen to Hollywood, or the end as we know it. Warning: at some point, "Firefly" gets mentioned.

I've only seen a couple episodes of Veronica Mars, but practically everyone I knew watched it. It had a huge fan following, despite its ratings. (Reminds me of Roswell with their fans sending bottles of hot sauce to the network execs). I think that the majority of the studios are afraid to put out anything new because they need that bankable movie to pay the bills...it's why they keep remaking movies. I like the idea that fans can fund their favorite cult classic in which the studios would otherwise pass up. (This girl will so be donating to Firefly because he was my Captain long before he was your Castle). It helps out the independent screenwriters as well. A big question is: how are the stars salaries negotiated and what role is the studio going to play in releasing rights to these films? There are some television series out there that aren't coming to DVD because the studio (ahem Warner Brothers) that won't release them, like Mama's Family. They did one season and when Betty White's career started to take off, release of season two and any following were put on hold. But look at UHF. Weird Al got a piece of the proceeds for the sale of that movie, but it bombed in the theaters. Yet its a huge cult classic now. I like the idea of fans funding their dreams. Sad to say, its all coming down to the politics of the bottom line.
