Rish Narrates "The Rat King" on Pseudopod

Rish here.  I was looking through the recordings on my magical device tonight, trying to free up some space, when I saw a file called "Rat King reading."  It was a narration I did of a story by Lia Swope Mitchell called "The Rat King," and I did a search for it.

Turns out, the episode went live two days ago, over at Pseudopod, the horror podcast.

This is a short tale told in Second Person, and was inspired by a weird phenomenon known as a rat king, where a mass of rodents get entangled by their tails, and become one filthy, starving, squirming, biting organism.  Like the Kardashians.

It's featured on another of their incessant "Flash on the Borderlands" episodes, with three scary tales in one.  They produce this shite every single week, and we can't even manage to get a show up a month.

Check it out at this link.

where's the next episode?

If you're a fan of the Dunesteef Audio Fiction Magazine, you may be wondering, "What the hell, guys?"

If not, I'm surprised.  Are you sure you're a fan?

Every July, Big goes on a vacation, and Rish goes on a vacation, and this year, aware of that fact, we got together and recorded an episode the day before (or might have been two days before) Big left with his family for the Great White North.  We recorded long and hard, because I had vowed to have it edited by the time he came back, and then, when I went off to my vacation the next week, he could post it.  And all would rejoice.

But rejoicing was canceled as we discovered that, somehow or other, the recording stopped after about thirty-three minutes.*  Which is sad because we had gone all out on this one, doing about ninety minutes in all.

Well, I was bummed and Big was outraged--or it might have been the other way around (after all "Big was bummed" sounds so much better), so the day Big came home, even though I was leaving for California the next day, we got together and redid the episode.  I told him I would go home and work on it, and maybe I could have it done by the time I left on Tuesday.

I stayed up until I couldn't work on it anymore (about 3:30am), but transferred the file so I could work on it from San Diego.  But I found, once I was out there, that I was too tired at the end of each day to edit audio, so still it sits.

Someday, you'll hear that episode, and I hope it's someday soon.  In fact, I interrupted my editing of the show to type up this lil blog post.  Whoops.

Talk to you soon.

Rish "Tardy Slip" Outfield

*I still have no explanation.  At one point on the recording, we paused so Big could check and make sure it was still going, and then, about seven minutes after that, the file just stopped.  I don't think he turned it off, the battery did not run out, and his hard drive is longer than Liam Neeson's . . . career, so I can't really identify what screwed us.  Might have been witchcraft.

That Gets My Goat 181: X-men Dunesteefalypse

Without a better title than that, Big drags Rish to the new X-MEN: APOCALYPSE film. Explicit warning: Rish says the word "ugly" several times.
