TGMG 84: What's Newsroom, Pussycat?

So, Rish recently saw the first episode of HBO's series "The Newsroom," and having both worked in live television news, he and Big talk a little about it.

Rish reads a story on "Journey Into..."

Once upon a time, I narrated a short Horror story called "Snakehead" by Sam Schreiber.  It was an icky tale about a camping and fishing trip gone bad.  More than a year ago, made the recording, sent it off, then promptly forgot about it.  I think it was originally intended for The Dribblecast (though that could be wrong since they usually produce one hundred word stories).  Seven or eight months later, I stumbled over it, and couldn't remember who it was for or if I had not gotten it to the requester, and they had given it to Barry J. Northern, as is wont to happen.

But no, it was just that pesky element known as life again, interfering in best-laid plans.  Later, Sam found a friend in Marshal3 Latham, who agreed to put it on his podcast, "Journey Into..."  I believe he then turned it into a full cast production (L. Scribe Harris does the main female voice), with sound effects and music, whereas my reading was just me doing all the voices.

Well, it's finally available to listen to, over at http://journeyintopodcast.blogspot.com/2012/07/journey-33-snakehead-by-sam-schrieber.html.  Marshal always does good work, and they also have some truly beautiful episode artwork, which should make up for any deficiencies in my voicework.

Check it out, especially if you eat fish on Fridays.

Parsec Finalists

"It's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs."

That's right. Han Solo is not talking about the Millenium Falcon, he's talking about the Dunesteef Audio Fiction Magazine. Here at the Dunesteef, we have less than twelve Parsecs...way less...like twelve less.

However, we do have two Parsec Award nominations. That's right, the 2012 Parsec Award Finalists have been announced, and the Dunesteef made the list.

So, we haven't been slaving over that hot microphone for nothing.

We are finalists in the Best Magazine category and also episode 118 Beachcombing by Ray Cluley is a finalist in the Best Story: Large Cast category.

So, a special congratulations to Ray Cluley who wrote such a great story, and to Sonny See who produced the episode.

We'd also like to say congrats to all the other finalists. The list includes many Dunesteef contributors like Abbie Hilton, Marshal Latham, Scribe Harris, Norm Sherman, Bryan Lincoln and probably others. Also a hearty congrats to Dave Robison and Brion Humphrey of the Roundtable Podcast with whom we passed an hour or two (or more) discussing a story idea with Renee Chambliss. Their podcast is also a finalist this year.

If you'd like to see the full list of nominees, check it out here. Maybe you can tell us if there's another podcast that has been nominated where a Dunesteef contributor also works. We want to congratulate everyone we can.

That Gets My Goat 81: Bad's Big Day

So, Big had a pretty awful day over the weekend, beginning with a wildfire in the hills above his house. We sat down for an hour or so and let him talk about it. Probably fewer laughs in this one than usual, but just as much messy humanity.
